The Challenge: A London Borough Council were experiencing problems with suspected breaking and entering, trespass and theft of equipment in one of their major recycling centres. The council relied on CCTV to monitor these incidents, but could not catch any perpetrators as the Police responses times were not immediate enough. As the Council’s main security supplier, a GUK security team was requested to provide a manned guarding solution to prevent further thefts and to secure the premises.

The Solution: Reacting quickly to the request, two GUK managers were on site the same day to carry out a site survey and collect keys for the lockdown procedures. The managers remained on site while the GUK helpdesk mobilised a security team to attend that same night. Within the two hours reactive response time for GUK to mobilise the two officers required, two men broke in via the rear fence of the site. The GUK trained and licensed managers caught them in the act of attempting to steal electrical equipment even before the deployment of the security team.

The immediate and successful response to the temporary security requirement provided, and GUK’s hands on ability to adapt to the needs at this facility, resulted in this London Borough Council extending a long-term night contract for GUK to provide security on the site.
