At GUK, we believe that staying ahead of emerging risks and understanding the evolving threat landscape is essential to delivering the highest standard of security services to our clients. As part of our commitment to continuous learning, development and industry engagement, our team regularly attends specialist events and training sessions to ensure we remain fully informed and aligned with best practice.
On 20th December 2025, our COO Peter Rees and Contract Manager Jack Topping attended the Prevent/Vulnerability Conference, hosted by the City of London Police. The event brought together professionals from across sectors who work to safeguard vulnerable individuals, prevent radicalisation and extremism, and contribute to counter-terrorism efforts. The focus was clear: early intervention, safeguarding, and understanding new and emerging vulnerabilities.
The speaker line-up provided valuable insights, with contributions from:
- A survivor of the 2017 Manchester Arena attack, offering a powerful first-hand perspective.
- The Head of Prevent for London and the South East, sharing updates on current priorities and the strategic direction of the Prevent programme.
- Thames Valley Police officers, presenting a detailed case study of a recent Prevent/Counter-Terrorism investigation.
Hearing these experiences, as well as reviewing current statistics and referral data, offered us a deeper understanding of how concerns are identified, assessed and progressed through the police and safeguarding channels. These insights help us better support our teams and clients, particularly where we encounter vulnerable individuals or behaviours of concern.
Overall, the conference was an important opportunity to strengthen our knowledge, stay updated with national trends, and reinforce our commitment to responsible, informed security practice.
