Breaking Down Barriers: GUK Teams Up with MAPP to Empower the Next Generation

At GUK, we believe that security is about more than protecting buildings — it’s about supporting people and communities. That’s why we’re proud to have partnered with our client MAPP, a leading B-Corp property management firm, and the youth-employment charity Resurgo, as part of their EMPOWER social impact initiative. Together, we’re helping to dismantle employment barriers and build brighter futures.

What’s the EMPOWER Programme?

Launched by MAPP in collaboration with Resurgo and several long-standing supply chain partners—including GUK, the EMPOWER project is a pioneering effort focused on socio-economic background (SEB) diversity. It aims to support young people aged 16–24 who are not in employment, education, or training (NEET) and who face challenges ranging from receiving free school meals to having lived in care.

Participants first complete Resurgo’s SPEAR employability training and a two-day “Springboard” session co-delivered by MAPP staff. This intensive preparation is followed by 12 months of coaching from Resurgo and mentoring from MAPP, all supported by impact tracking and measurement.

Fast-Tracked to Success

The results speak volumes: of the 21 young people who took part in the first two phases, 17 are now in employment, education, training, or have been offered roles.

GUK was honoured to welcome four of these talented young individuals into reception and guarding roles. It’s been a privilege to help them break down employment barriers, support our local communities, and witness first-hand their remarkable growth and success.

“It realigned my perception of the workplace… I’m more productive, much more organised, and happier because I feel much more useful and needed. My vision for the future is getting clearer every day.”

These words reflect the transformative power of inclusion and the importance of workplace environments where individuals are valued beyond just their roles.
