Rapid GUK deployment assists with earthquake emergency

Client: A Stansted (Fixed-Base Operator) FBO
Sector:
Aviation
Key Factors: Emergency Response

The ChallengeIn April 2015 a devastating earthquake hit Nepal. The UK Government immediately put into action a plan to deliver aid to the area and help with the rescue and relief effort.

A Stansted FBO required a security team on the site quickly, so as not to delay the 13.5 tonnes of vital supplies heading to Nepal.

The Solution: GUK received the call for assistance at 10:20pm on Saturday 25 April and immediately gathered a team to be deployed to Stansted Airport. By 11am the next day we had delivered five security personnel. These members of staff were fully briefed, and ready to assist with the security screening of vital equipment and supplies needed for search and rescue in Nepal.

This involved GUK officers using hand search techniques, x-ray, and ‘trace explosive detection technology’ to ensure equipment was safe for transport. In addition to this initial team two further GUK security personnel were required on the Sunday afternoon. They assisted with the security screening of 102 fire-fighters and aid workers heading to Nepal to aid in the search and rescue.
